And now… #10:

Write in a Food Journal

It’s seriously so simple. Yet SO effective.

Find a cute little notebook. Download an app (there are tons!). Use the Notes feature on your phone.

It doesn’t have to be elaborate or fancy. Just a place where you will commit to writing down E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. you eat.

That’s the key. You have to write down EVERYTHING.

* Those extra bites from your kiddos’ plates.

* That lick of the spoon.

* The handful of M&Ms as you walk by a candy dish.

writing journalI don’t keep a food journal everyday, but when I’m in a season where I am, I know that I’m eating better. (And please remember this isn’t about counting calories, or losing weight, per se… This is about eating well and being healthy in order to do everything He has planned for me… Taking care of our temple…. Respecting our bodies out of honor to our Creator.)

I’m seriously lazy enough that I can usually talk myself out of eating something unnecessary – because I’ll have to write it down!

And, this isn’t just something I came up with, of course. There’s lots of scientific research to support this concept. Keeping a food journal nearly doubles weight loss in many studies!

Don’t get me wrong, obviously WHAT you write in there does matter. If you’re recording nothing but pizza, cupcakes, and Fruit Loops, you won’t lose weight. But just keeping track of what goes in can seriously affect your overall goals and success.

So, only one question remains then… Who’s with me? Who’s willing to write down everything they eat – even just tomorrow? Start with one day. Then one more day. And so and so on…
