How many of you feel bad taking time out of the day to exercise? Do you even recognize the possibility of fitness-related mommy guilt?
Some people claim that it’s selfish. Others feel they should be doing chores or playing with their kids instead.
But trust me, moms, taking care of you – and your body – benefits everyone else around you too!
As my friend Angel of JOY Life wrote:
“I have incredible guilt when I take time to do anything for myself. As a mom, I take pride in putting everyone’s needs in front of my own. I think many of us feel that our role as mothers requires our needs to come last. But there is a slippery slope that occurs here. Who will take care of our kids, our parents, our husbands, our communities, when we fall backwards in sickness, exhaustion, misery and crisis?
My husband and sons are completely supportive of me taking time to exercise, to be alone for that precious hour a few times each week, because I have explained, kindly and honestly to them, that if I don’t take care of me, I will not be able to take care of them.
Speak to your loved ones in the ways that will keep them supportive. You can do this and it is not only ok, but it is important!
I challenge you to help your family support you in this important lifestyle change. Love them into understanding, and DO NOT FEEL GUILTY for taking care of yourself.
Healthy mommy, healthy family.”
***************
With just having celebrated Mothers’ Day, I wanted women everywhere to understand the importance of exercise.
Not exercise in order to shrink a fat zone.
Not exercise as punishment for eating too much cake.
Exercise as a way and means of moving the body in order to have a healthy heart, strong muscles, and a clear mind.
In order to do everything we need to do as women, wives, and/or moms, we need to be clothed with strength and have strong arms, right? How will we do that if we don’t exercise?
This week, I want you to plan your exercise times. Schedule them on your calendar. Even if you need to write “mental health moment” on the line. Physically, spiritually, emotionally – moms need to exercise.
How does exercise affect your life as a wife and/or mom? How does your family feel about the idea of you exercising? Would love to hear! Comment below or share on social media…
