Hopefully you’ve been enjoying the fitness & faith based ideas with the Planksgiving and Prayer last month and now the Active Advent picking up steam. Today, I wanted to share a bigger-picture, motivational message rather than anything specifically faith or fitness based.
I recently finished reading “Start: Punch Fear in the Face. Escape Average. Do Work that Matters” by Jon Acuff. Oh my gosh. I’m guessing you can tell from the subtitle that this was a very motivational (and hilarious!) book.
Today, I wanted to focus on one of my favorite insights from the book:
I don’t want to “rock vanilla to the grave.”
I’m SO vanilla. For example, I wear black capris EVERY time I teach at the Y – maybe black shorts if I’m only teaching CX. Some of my YMCA coworkers rock these crazy, bright prints…but not me.
But I’ve decided this life was meant for more than just average, vanilla.
I don’t think I’ll ever be described as the “life of the party” – (that’s why I married my husband! He once wore a napkin on his head like a chef’s hat, went behind the serving table at our friends wedding reception, and started handing out food like it was his job!) I know there’s a picture of that floating around somewhere…
But, I probably have hid behind the average, status quo for too long. If I blend in like a plain Jane, I’m perfectly happy. But I guess I’ve realized that I was created with a unique purpose and passion. And if I continue to just try to blend in, I may be disrespecting my original design, as Kara writes about here at Wellness Witness.
I enjoy teaching classes at the Y, but I’m ready to do more. I want to help people on their journeys to improved health and fitness, but also encourage them with a little bit of Jesus too. Doing that in person isn’t quite as natural for me. But being able to assist virtually is perfect!
That’s why this coaching opportunity is such a great fit for me. Connect people with the at-home fitness program that would work best for them. Provide them with meal plans and the amazing nutrition of Shakeology. And then dig into the Word for a little motivation and provide accountability through online Challenge groups. Yes, please!
Are you wanting to find YOUR awesome in life? To follow YOUR original design? What is it you would want to do if you knew you couldn’t fail?
Let me know if I can help – I may or may not be wearing neon printed workout pants when you see me next!
