Yes. Rest. While I’m all for working up a good sweat during a workout, I’m also a huge fan of RESTING!
In terms of strength training, it’s vital for your muscles to have 48 hours to repair themselves in order to avoid overuse injuries. Just like muscles, we grow best when we have time to pause in purposefully peaceful moments.
I almost feel silly suggesting you take one day completely off to rest and simply do things that bring you refreshment and enjoyment. I think that’s been said before, right? — The Bible might have called it the Sabbath?
I know it’s hard to completely unplug and kick your feet up because it seems there’s always something more to do, but it’s seriously so important – both spiritually and physically.
One of my favorite verses ever – Matthew 11:28 says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Oh. Just go to Him.
In your weary, I’ve-been-busting-my-rear state, go to Him.
In your I-don’t-think-it’s-possible-for-me-to-ever-feel-rested-again state, go to Him.
In your worn-to-the-bone state, go to Him.
All of the stretching routines, time in the sauna, classical music, and lavender-infused relaxation techniques are all well and good. But nothing compares to the rest He can give.
Praying you are able – even for just one moment this week – to find a little rest.
