23 1/2 Hours

Time. Oh, if only I had more time…

minutes to exercise 23 1/2 hours
Can you find just 30 minutes a day to exercise?

I know I’m asking a lot here. Not 23 1/2 hours, mind you. But the video is nearly 10 minutes long. However, I think the message is well worth it. (If only to just be in awe of the man’s quick marker-sketch abilities – amazing!)

SPOILER ALERT – If you don’t have the ten minutes to watch, here’s the premise: What’s the single best thing we can do for our health? EXERCISE 30 minutes a day.

That’s it. 30 minutes for exercising. You get to have 23 1/2 hours to do whatever else you’d like to do! Considering it from that perspective, 30 minutes doesn’t seem that unreasonable, does it?

Exercise IS medicine. I know it’s sort of ironic, but I don’t really like going to the doctor.

And I certainly don’t like taking medicine unless it’s absolutely necessary. I figure our bodies can usually work out most minor issues on their own. (But obviously I’m respectfully grateful for the advances of modern medicine for significant issues).

But to consider exercise as medicine. Perfect. I’ll take it!

If you feel like you just can’t possibly find 30 minutes in your day, would you consider doing a time inventory?

Here’s a little free printable you can use. Simply jot down what you’re doing each hour of the day to see where your time really goes…

I just broke it down to the whole hour, but you could always do to the half hour or even 15 minute increments if you needed.

But then, when you start talking about minutes, I’m going to have to bust out singing from the musical, Rent… “525,600 minutes. 525,000 moments so dear. How do you measure a year in the life?”

Sorry — back from Broadway —

Of course, the Bible has something to say about how we use our time as well. Ephesians 5:15-16a (ESV) says,

“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time…”

Yes. Exactly.

Try keeping tabs for three days and then honestly evaluate how your days typically unfold. Maybe, in this season of life, you truly can’t find the time. I understand.

But, remember, even three chunks of ten minutes count!

Hopefully you’ll be able to find thirty minutes to exercise – so that we can make “the best use of the time!”
