“Work Your Body, Everybody, Work Your Body Like You Should”

In my house, Sid the Science Kid pretty much rules. What he says goes, and he says:

“Work your body, everybody.

Work your body like you should.

Work your body, everybody.

Make your body feel real good.”

(You’ll either love or hate the video – but the tune sure is catchy. 🙂

I know, I know… we all KNOW we should exercise, but how often does it just not happen? More often than we’d like to admit probably. Being proactive and having a plan are so helpful in making sure that you actually do it (almost) everyday.

Some of my favorite tips:

running shoes and clothes ready for morning
Literally roll out of bed…
  1. If you can exercise first thing in the morning, lay your clothes out the night before. Before your mind even has time to object, just roll out of bed and get started.
  1. Schedule it on your calendar. Consider it a daily “doctor” appointment. The healthier you are, the less likely you’ll need to visit a real doctor’s office. Because I know how much y’all just love those waiting rooms! (I can make doctor jokes, right?)
  1. Meet a friend. The accountability of knowing someone else is relying on you helps tremendously. And besides,

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Eccl 4:9-10

And, I don’t know about you, but I have definitely fallen down while exercising before. (Let’s just say Grace is not my middle name).

  1. Reward yourself (preferably with a non-food item) for so many minutes or days exercised in a week. Massage? Workout clothes? Shoot, I’ve even made a sticker chart … but that may just be the elementary school teacher coming out in me again!

Try one (or all of these) – and soon you just might be singing the “Work Your Body” tune too.

Do you find any of these helpful? Any other tips or suggestions for working “your body like you should”?
