Happy 4th of July and Giveaway Winner!

pretty explosions

Sparklers. Smoke bombs. Snap-its (I don’t know what they’re really called… The little white tadpole-looking objects that make a snapping noise when you whip them at the sidewalk… Anyone have an official name of those?)

The fun before the real fireworks was always more entertaining to me as a kid. By the time it was dark enough for the real show, I was too sleepy to even appreciate the fact that thousands of dollars were exploding in mere seconds.

In thinking back over the fireworks I’ve seen in more recent years, I can say I’ve seen some spectacular shows. And now that I’m older, I wonder why we’ve decided that blowing things up is really worth the exorbitant amount of money spent simply to create a few oohs and ahhs.

But in any case, I treasure my 4th of July memories of cookouts, catching fireflies, and playing croquet, and I’m definitely grateful for the reason we celebrate this day. If I could bust out singing a family rendition of Lee Greenwood’s God Bless the USA, I totally would. “I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free.”

I know I’m free. Not only because I’m an American. But also because Jesus has set me free.

So if the Son sets you free, then you will be free indeed.” John 8:36

Here’s hoping you find your freedom and make some beautiful memories with those you love this holiday weekend!

And — congratulations to the Sweet Dreams Sleepy Time Giveaway winner, Amber Lovette. Hopefully you’ll be finding some sweet slumber soon! 🙂
